Eric's Story Series: "Success"

The other day I was discussing with my son his report card. He’s got 2 C’s from his last term. What would you expect a Chinese father to say when he sees two C’s on his son’s report card? This is unacceptable! I thought it’s a perfect opportunity to teach him a lesson about success. I said: you need straight A’s to succeed, right, son? He said no. But do you mean no. Dad, I think success has nothing to do with success. Do you see A in success? There’s no A in success. There’re two C’s in success. And by the way, I did them on purpose. You did what on purpose? I got two C’s on purpose. What? I chose the wrong answers on purpose because I don’t like A. I like C. I think the purpose of A is to make C feel bad. And that’s not nice. Do you have a clue about what I said to my son? I found no words. I think Canadian education has taught him nothing but arguing with his dad … He’s good at that, isn’t he?
